Tips for Beginners

If you have just started or are about to start, here are some useful tips from our experts!

  1. Warm up before you climb. This is a crucial bit to avoid any possible muscle injuries and strains. You want to do a bit of warm up, by doing what ever you would do before a gym workout, run, jump rope etc. or if nothing else try traversing at the wall. Traversing is moving sideways at low levels. It also increases your muscle memory to what you are about to do.

  2. Make sure you have climbing shoes on and chalk at hand to make sure you get the best possible grip. Chalk will dry your hands from any sweat and moisture during the climb. Some climbers carry chalk on them in small pouches too!

  3. Use your full body! Remember this is a full body workout. You will need to use all your muscles, not just hands to pull you up, also your feet and legs to push you up. And don’t forget the grey cells, your brain is what you really need to plan your next move and solve the problem at hand.

  4. Keep your arms as straight as possible. Many people make the mistake of keeping their arms bent, and this way you will get tired quickly and might use your shoulders and arms too much. Reach high and far with your hands, straight it holds a lot more power with less effort.

  5. Don’t rush! Plan properly and move carefully. This is not a speed contest, although those exist as well, but in the beginning, it is best to learn how to move at the wall and understand how your body works.

  6. Don’t forget to breath. Too simple? Start climbing and you will see what we mean.

  7. Ask, always ask for advice. The staff and your fellow climbers are all here because they love it and are always willing to advice and help any beginners with their journey to bouldering.
